Terms of service.
The short version
We provide an HTTP API for sending email through your own domain. (Inbound receive is coming soon.) You use it to send legitimate mail. Don't be a jerk about it. The detail is below.
Who we are
emailrelay is operated by The IT Dept Pty Ltd (ABN 12 665 405 505), based on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. Reach us at hello@emailrelay.au.
Your account
When you sign up, you give us your name, email, and a password. Keep your password safe — we can't see it and we won't ask for it. You're responsible for everything that happens under your account, including any API keys you create.
One account per person or organisation, please. If we find duplicate or fake accounts, we may close them.
Your sending domain
You bring your own domain (e.g. mail.yourcompany.com). We generate a DKIM keypair for it and you publish three DNS records: SPF, DKIM, and recommended DMARC. By adding a domain you confirm that you own or are authorised to send mail from it. (When inbound receive ships, an MX record will be the fourth.)
What you can do
Use emailrelay for any lawful email use case where the recipient expects to hear from you. Typical examples:
- Transactional notifications (receipts, confirmations, password resets)
- Two-factor authentication codes
- Appointment reminders
- Order updates and shipping notifications
- Customer service replies
- Any other lawful messaging where consent exists
What you can't do
Don't use the service to:
- Send spam or unsolicited bulk email
- Harass, threaten, or abuse anyone
- Send anything illegal under Australian law (or the law of wherever your recipients are)
- Impersonate someone or send misleading messages
- Phish, run scams, or distribute malware
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of our systems
- Resell access to the API without our written permission
- Do anything that gets us in trouble with mailbox providers, regulators, or the law
If you're not sure your use case is okay, ask us. We're friendly.
Credits and payment
New accounts receive 100 free credits. One outbound email costs one credit. (When inbound ships, received emails will also cost one credit each.) When you run out, sends fail until you top up. Credits never expire, have no cash value, and can't be transferred or refunded.
All prices are AUD inclusive of 10% GST. Tax invoices are issued for every payment, downloadable from the portal.
The service itself
We do our best to keep things running smoothly. Email delivery depends on receiver mailbox providers that are outside our control — we can't guarantee 100% delivery or uptime. The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind.
We're not liable for messages that don't deliver, arrive late, get marked as spam, or cause downstream issues. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the issue.
We can suspend or terminate accounts
If you break these terms, abuse the service, or we're required to by law, we can suspend or close your account. We'll try to give you a heads up if practical, but we can act immediately for clear AUP violations.
You can close your account at any time by emailing us.
Changes to these terms
We might update these terms from time to time. Significant changes will be notified by email or a portal notice. Continued use after changes means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. Disputes are handled in NSW courts.
